Hi, I’m Ben Conover.

I am a Doctoral Candidate (with distinction) in Philosophy at Saint Louis University. I received my Master of Arts (M.A.) from University of California-Irvine’s Logic and Philosophy of Science (LPS) program, and my Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Saint Louis University’s Philosophy program.

My primary research interests are in philosophy of science, metaphysics, and philosophy of mathematics. I also do some work in formal methods and ancient Greek philosophy. I am Anna Marmodoro’s research assistant including serving as the editorial assistant for Ancient Philosophy Today: DIALOGOI. Additionally, I serve as the Philosophy Graduate Student Association President for 2026-27 at Saint Louis University.

My dissertation centers on the philosophical implications of the mathematical representation of entities (understood generally) in our best scientific theories (esp. in physics), particularly ontological and methodological implications. My doctoral advisers are Prof. Scott Berman and Prof. Kent Staley.

Additional projects include forthcoming papers on Newton’s mathematical philosophy, Plato’s view of space in the Timaeus, and a defense of Bayesian subjectivism against the arbitrariness objection for risk-weighted expected utility maximizers.
